Dear Sport Anglers,
Once again, we are pleased to offer you a tour that is truly one of a kind. This tour is specifically designed for anglers who are interested in active fishing but have little to no experience and would like to learn more about this style of fishing.
By “action fishing,” we mean spin fishing in tropical saltwater—that is, fishing with poppers and stickbaits near the surface, as well as jigging in deeper waters (both speed jigging and slow-pitch jigging). These fishing techniques have been growing in popularity for some time now. The angler is significantly more active here (compared to, for example, trolling), which makes every successful catch feel even more rewarding. As with almost everything, the saying “practice makes perfect” applies here as well. We’ve noticed for some time that while interest in these techniques is growing among more and more anglers, many simply lack the decisive step needed to get started properly. This isn’t just about the “know-how,” but especially about the extensive equipment required for this—which, unfortunately, is anything but cheap. We can now offer you a virtually perfect solution to these barriers to entry, one that also provides all the necessary fishing gear.
These beginner seminars start by covering all the essential theoretical basics. This includes, among other things, selecting and adjusting the right gear for your target fish, the complete setup with the correct leader length and thickness, knot tying, casting techniques for popper/stickbait fishing (including dry runs on the beach if necessary), speed jigging vs. slow pitch jigging, the difference between fluorocarbon and monofilament leaders, how to properly read nautical charts in conjunction with the use of a fish finder, and a few other things as well. Of course, we don’t want to spend too much time on theory, because nothing beats practical experience—and that’s why we head out to sea right from day one to put what we’ve learned into practice. The seminars also include at least one night fishing session and two nights camping in tents on the beach of an uninhabited island, adding an extra touch of adventure. As mentioned earlier, all fishing gear required for the techniques is provided and included in the price. This includes all artificial lures.
Participants only pay for lost or severely damaged equipment. Those who wish to do so can also purchase gear (rod/reel/line/lures) on-site at the end of the tour to use on future trips. All fishing gear is of the highest quality, and prices here are generally lower than in Germany. As mentioned—only if you want to…

Target species: Giant Trevally (GT), Bluefin Trevally, Golden Trevally, Jobfish, Grouper (there are about 40 different species here), Snapper, Black Jacks, Pomfret, Tuna (Yellowfin, Longtail, and Dogtooth) – possibly even billfish like marlin and sailfish (though the latter are not a top priority, as they require different gear and techniques). Plus a whole range of reef fish species.
We fish aboard the Tide Explorer. An amazing boat—the basic specs alone are enough to impress:

Here are two more benefits of the tour:
- The group size is limited to just 4 anglers, so the team can provide personalized attention to each participant and ensure there’s plenty of space on the boat for fishing.
- Each participant is accommodated in a single room. You’ll stay in a cozy guesthouse on Komandoo Island in Shaviyani Atoll, which features several bedrooms (all with shower/toilet), a rooftop terrace, a common room, and a kitchen.

Planned schedule
Departure from Germany—either via a direct flight from Frankfurt (Condor) or with a single layover in Istanbul to Malé. Arrival the following morning. Then a boat transfer (approx. 2.5 hours) to Komandoo in the Shaviyani Atoll and check-in at the guesthouse (single room). In the afternoon, we’ll prepare the gear (starting with jigging equipment) using the best knots and comparing different reel models (fixed spool/multi-reel). We’ll also cover the different techniques (speed jigging and slow pitch jigging) and the lures used for each. In the late afternoon, we head out onto the water for our first practical test, where we fish until sunset. Overnight stay at the guesthouse with full board.
Morning jigging—mainly for grouper and coral trout (both species of grouper) in relatively shallow waters. Followed by a lunch break. Afterward, we’ll study nautical charts while using the fish finder during jigging. The team can also use the chart to suggest a jigging spot, which we’ll then head to in the afternoon. In the evening, more jigging in deeper waters. Overnight stay at the guesthouse with full board.
After first setting up the gear for popper fishing (this may be done the day before), during which the standard knots, leader materials, etc., will be explained again, we’ll head out to the reefs to fish with poppers and stickbaits. If necessary, casting techniques can be explained and practiced on the beach beforehand. On the boat itself, the classic rotation principle is demonstrated while casting and fishing. Night fishing for red snapper. Overnight stay in a guesthouse with full board.
Today we’re heading to a so-called “break point”—a reef located just below the waterline where the waves break. This creates relatively high waves there, and with a bit of luck, you can spot giant trevally (GT) standing in the waves. Here, we’ll be fishing for GTs as well as groupers and snappers using poppers and stickbaits. In the evening, we’ll camp on the beach of an uninhabited island, where we can also fish from the shore using lighter spinning lures and live bait for a wide variety of reef and bottom-dwelling fish. There will be a briefing beforehand on which fish species are found here and how to fish for them. Overnight stay in a tent on the beach. Full board.
Popping and jigging on the reef all day. Return trip to Komandoo in the evening. Overnight stay at the guesthouse with full board.
Today we’re heading far out to a so-called FAD (Fish Attraction Device), located about a two-hour boat ride offshore from Komandoo. Here, there’s a good chance of hooking a tuna while jigging. Yellowfin tuna, longtail tuna, and occasionally dogtooth tuna are found here, all of which demand a lot from anglers during the fight. Since the TidalFisher team has good connections with the local tuna fleet, we can get a pretty good idea in advance whether the long trip there is worth it. Marlin and sailfish are also occasionally found at the FADs (though this would naturally require different gear). On this day, we also plan to camp on the beach of another uninhabited island, with the option to fish from the shore in the evening. Full board.
Last day of fishing – one last go at popping and jigging. Overnight stay at the guesthouse with full board.
Transfer back to Malé. Return flight to Germany around noon (Condor). If the return flight departs before 10:00 a.m. (which is usually the case with Turkish Airlines), the transfer to Malé takes place the evening before, and you will spend the night there at a different guesthouse.
Arrival in Germany in the evening.
The schedule mentioned above is, of course, subject to change and must always be adjusted to current weather conditions.
