Maldives - For beginners and professionals
Endless white sandy beaches, palm trees, azure, crystal-clear water – the beauty of the Maldives is legendary, and this paradise on earth is rightfully one of the most coveted destinations for travelers from all over the world. The archipelago comprises a total of 26 ring-shaped atolls, consisting of almost 1,200 coral islands, stretching approximately 870 km from north to south.
What you can admire during the approach to landing is breathtaking, but especially everything that lies beneath the surface of the water. An almost unbelievable splendor of light and color, with a marine biodiversity that is second to none, has made the Maldives one of the most valuable ecosystems on Earth. Where powder-white beaches slowly merge with the underwater world of dreamy coral reefs, one inevitably comes to a realization: The Maldives are a travel destination that one must experience (at least) once in a lifetime.

That such a paradise also offers excellent fishing should come as no surprise. It’s the sheer diversity of species, in particular, that makes this a truly rewarding destination for anglers. On the reefs, you’ll find trevally species (especially giant and bluefin trevally), jobfish, grouper, and many more. Jigging also yields grouper and red snapper. Offshore, you’ll also find tuna, wahoo, and swordtails.
Our local partners are the so-called “Tidalfishers”—and the name truly reflects their approach, as they constantly analyze tides and moon phases to maximize your fishing success. Therefore, trips sometimes start early in the morning, but also later in the evening to take advantage of the promising fishing conditions—depending on the tide. While all fishing techniques known for tropical seas can generally be used in the Maldives, tidal fishermen have concentrated particularly on active fishing with spinners, i.e. jigging and popping.
To be clear from the outset: You can be an experienced angler in these areas of “action fishing,” but you don’t have to be. Here in the Maldives, there’s a virtually unique opportunity for anglers who want to familiarize themselves more with active fishing techniques. Special seminars are offered to introduce these techniques to all interested anglers. Further details can be found below.
The local crew has excellent local knowledge and knows exactly when and where the fishing is best. The team always adapts to the needs of the anglers – because in addition to active fishing with poppers, stickbaits, and jigs, you can also try your luck with fly fishing – or even enjoy a relaxing trolling session. We can create packages for both dedicated anglers who come solely for fishing and for regular tourists who are spending a beach/diving holiday in the Maldives and just want to fish for a day. The boat, the “Tide Explorer”, has its home base in the Male Atoll – but can also be deployed in other atolls upon request.

Beginner Seminars for Action Fishing
Action fishing refers to spin fishing in tropical saltwater – specifically, fishing with poppers and stickbaits near the surface, as well as jigging in deeper waters (both speed jigging and slow pitch jigging). These fishing techniques have been enjoying increasing popularity for some time now. Anglers are significantly more active (compared to trolling, for example), making each catch all the more impressive. As with almost everything, practice makes perfect. We’ve observed that while more and more anglers are interested in these techniques, they often lack the crucial step to get started. This involves not only acquiring the necessary know-how, but also, and perhaps more importantly, the extensive equipment required – which, unfortunately, is anything but cheap. We can now offer you a truly perfect solution to overcome these initial hurdles, where all the fishing equipment is provided. These introductory seminars begin by teaching all the essential theoretical basics. This includes, among other things, selecting and matching the right equipment for your target fish, setting up your complete rig with the correct leader length and strength, knot tying, casting techniques for popper/stickbait fishing (including dry-land practice on the beach if needed), speed jigging vs. slow pitch jigging, the difference between fluorocarbon and monofilament leaders, correctly reading nautical charts in conjunction with using a fish finder, and much more.
Of course, we don’t want to dwell too much on theory, because nothing beats practical experience – and that’s why we head out to sea on day one to put the knowledge into practice. The seminars also include at least one night fishing trip and an overnight stay in a tent on the beach of an uninhabited island, adding an extra dose of adventure. You can find the details in our trip description under “Offers” on this page.
As mentioned, all fishing equipment for the techniques used is provided and included in the price. This includes all lures. Participants only pay for lost or severely damaged equipment.
Getting there:
Several airlines offer flights to Malé. Condor offers direct flights from Frankfurt. Alternatively, Turkish Airlines (via Istanbul) also flies there.

Here is some basic information about the tour:
Beginner’s Seminar for “Action Fishing” – Dates: November 7-15, 2026
Action fishing refers to spin fishing in tropical saltwater – specifically, fishing with poppers and stickbaits near the surface, as well as jigging in deeper waters (both speed jigging and slow pitch jigging). These fishing techniques have been enjoying increasing popularity for some time now. Anglers are significantly more active (compared to trolling, for example), making each catch considerably more rewarding. As with almost everything, practice makes perfect. We’ve observed that while more and more anglers are interested in these techniques, they often lack the crucial step to get started. This isn’t just about the know-how, but especially about the extensive equipment required – which, unfortunately, is anything but cheap. We can now offer you a virtually perfect solution to overcome these initial hurdles, providing all the necessary fishing gear. These introductory seminars begin by covering all the essential theoretical basics. This includes, among other things, selecting and matching the right tackle for the target fish, the complete setup with the correct leader length and strength, knot tying, casting techniques for popper/stickbait fishing (including dry-land practice on the beach if needed), speed jigging vs. slow pitch jigging, the difference between fluorocarbon and monofilament leaders, proper chart reading in conjunction with fish finder use, and much more.
Of course, we don’t want to dwell too much on theory, because nothing beats practical experience – and that’s why we head out to sea on day one to put the learned material into practice. The seminars also include at least one night fishing trip and an overnight stay in a tent on the beach of an uninhabited island, adding an extra layer of adventure. As mentioned, all fishing equipment for the techniques taught is provided and included in the price. This includes all lures.
Participants only pay for lost or severely damaged equipment. Those who wish can purchase equipment (rod/reel/line/lure) on-site at the end of the trip to use on future excursions. All fishing gear is of the highest quality, and prices are generally lower than in Germany. As mentioned, it’s entirely up to you…

Target fish: Giant Trevally (GT), Bluefin Trevally, Golden Trevally, Jobfish, Grouper (there are around 40 different species in total), Snapper, Black Jacks, Pomfret, Tuna (Yellowfin, Longtail, and Dogtooth) – possibly even swordtails like Marlin and Sailfish (the latter are not a top priority, as they require different equipment and techniques). Plus, a whole range of reef fish species.
Intrigued?
Then here are two more advantages of the tour:
- The number of participants is limited to just 4 anglers, ensuring that the team can provide intensive support to each participant and that there is ample space for fishing on the boat.
- Each participant has a single cabin.
Planned Tour Itinerary
November 7th/8th, 2026
Departure from Germany – either via direct flight from Frankfurt (Condor), or with one layover in Istanbul to Malé. Arrival the following morning. Then, boat transfer (approx. 2.5 hours) to Komandoo in the Shaviyani Atoll and check-in at the guesthouse (single room). In the afternoon, we’ll prepare our equipment (starting with jigging gear) using the best knots and compare different reel models (spinning/multiplier). We’ll also explain the different techniques (speed jigging and slow pitch jigging) and the lures used. In the late afternoon, we’ll head out onto the water for our first practical test, fishing until sunset. Overnight stay at the guesthouse with full board.
… November 9, 2026
Morning jigging – primarily for grouper and coral trout (both grouper species) in relatively shallow water. Lunch break afterwards. Then, chart reading combined with using the fish finder while jigging. The team can also suggest a jigging area based on the chart, which will then be visited in the afternoon. Evening jigging in deeper waters. Overnight stay in a guesthouse with full board.

November 10, 2026
After first setting up the equipment for popper fishing (this may even happen the day before), where common knots, leader materials, etc., will be explained again, we’ll head out to the reefs to fish with poppers/stickbaits. If necessary, casting techniques can be explained and practiced on the beach beforehand. On the boat, the classic rotation principle will be demonstrated while casting/fishing. Night fishing for red snapper. Overnight stay in a guesthouse with full board.
November 11, 2026
Today we’ll go to a so-called “break point”—a reef located just below the waterline where the waves break. This creates relatively high waves, and with a bit of luck, you might see giant trevally (GT) standing in the waves. Here, we’ll fish for GTs and grouper/snappers using poppers/stickbaits. In the evening, we’ll camp on an uninhabited island on the beach, where we can also fish from the shore using lighter lures and natural baits for a wide variety of reef and bottom fish. We’ll give a briefing beforehand on which fish species are found here and how to fish for them. Overnight stay in tents on the beach. Full board.
November 12, 2026
All day: Popping and jigging on the reef. Return to Komandoo in the evening. Overnight stay in a guesthouse with full board.
November 13, 2026
Today we’ll head far out to a so-called FAD (Fish Attraction Device), located about a two-hour boat ride offshore from Komandoo. Here, there’s a good chance of hooking a tuna while jigging. Yellowfin tuna, longtail tuna, and occasionally dogtooth tuna are found here, all of which will give anglers a good fight. Since the TidalFisher team has good contacts with the local tuna fleet, it’s possible to assess in advance whether the long trip is worthwhile. Marlin and sailfish are also occasionally caught at the FADs (although different tackle would be required for these). On this day, we also plan to camp on the beach of another uninhabited island, with the option of fishing from the shore in the evening. Full board included.
November 14, 2026
Last day of fishing – one last go with popping and jigging. Overnight stay in a guesthouse with full board.
November 15, 2026
Transfer back to Malé. Around noon, return flight to Germany (Condor). If the return flight departs before 10:00 a.m. (which is usually the case with Turkish Airlines), the transfer to Malé will take place the evening before, and you will spend one night there in a different guesthouse.
Arrival in Germany in the evening.
Last day of fishing – full speed ahead with popping and jigging. Overnight stay in a guesthouse with full board. The above schedule is of course subject to change and must always be coordinated with the current weather conditions.

Included:
- Flight Germany-Maldives
- All transfers
- Accommodation in a guesthouse (single room) or on 2 nights in a tent on the beach*
- Full board**
- 6 full days of fishing (minimum 8 hours, often a bit more…)
- All fishing equipment including bait. Only lost or severely damaged equipment needs to be replaced.
Guide: Kai Witt, Global Fishing Adventures
*On the two days we camp, we reserve a room in the guesthouse for all luggage not needed for the overnight stay on the beach, so we don’t have to carry everything.
**Includes breakfast (with coffee/tea), packed lunch (unless we return at midday), and a hot dinner. Soft drinks are included on board and ashore.

Number of participants: 4
Price per person: €4,299
Please note that the tour price depends significantly on flight availability and that fuel surcharges may apply in the current situation.
