Fishing adventure Mozambique / Bazaruto Archipelago - The Forgotten Paradise

Fishing adventure in Bazaruto Archipelago describes a group of islands which are located about 10 km off the coast of Mozambique and is one of the largest marine protected areas in Africa. Miles of lonely paradise beaches, an intact underwater world with blooming coral gardens – that is, an almost unspoiled nature – can be found here.

The total of 5 islands in the archipelago are a mixture of tropical island, African savannah and Sahara: huge white sand dunes offer a truly spectacular beach setting on the east side of the islands, while the west side impresses with a Caribbean tropical flair. Not only whales, dolphins, turtles and the very rare dugongs (mixture of manatee and dolphin) live here between the paradisiacal beaches, but of course also a variety of fish species (in total we are talking about over 2000 different species), of which a significant number are very interesting for anglers: Giant Trevally (GT), Marlin (mainly Black, but also Blue and Striped Marlin), Sailfish, Tuna, Dorados (Mahi Mahi), Wahoos, and many others …

The area is very suitable for popping / jigging. In the hot midday, when the fish on the reef are a little less active, you can also fish for a few hours with trolling lures for Billfish. The Black Marlin that occur here are often over 600 pounds in weight and of course offer unforgettable experiences on the hook.

Fishing trips MOZAMBIQUE / BAZARUTO

The starting point of our tour is the coastal city of Vilanculos, which is located about 720 km north of the capital Maputo. In contrast to our catamaran tour to St. Lazarus Bank (where we are at sea for a week), this trip is a “land-based” trip with daily fishing trips to the Bazaruto Archipelago. We live in the very comfortable Vila Do Paraiso (see accommodations).

Center console boats are used for fishing – the day of fishing usually starts very early, around 05:00 in the morning, in order to reach the fishing grounds after about an hour’s drive at the best biting time. Around 3:30 p.m. we make our way back, so that the fishing day ends after about 11 hours.

GUIDED TOUR FOR INDIVIDUAL DRIVERS TO THE BAZARUTO ARCHIPELAGO / MOZAMBIQUE

Next date: May 2021

After our last tours were extremely successful, we plan to offer another trip to the Bazauto Archipel / Mozambique in 2021 – this time for what is supposed to be the best GT season in May. The archipelago, which is not wrongly called “Forgotten Paradise”, is not only one of Africa’s largest marine protected areas, but you can still find an almost unspoiled nature here – miles of lonely paradise beaches and an intact underwater world with flowering coral gardens. The Bazaruto is home to over 2000 different fish species – our tour mainly focuses on Giant Trevally (GT), King Mackerel, different types of Kingfish, Groupers, Cobias – and also large Sharks.

The focus will clearly be on poppers / jigging and the trolling lures/baits will only be used if the activity of the fish on the reef significantly decreases during the lunch hour.

In contrast to our catamaran tour / (St. Lazarus Bank (where we are at sea for a week), this trip is a “land-based” trip with daily trips to the Bazaruto Archipelago. We live in the very comfortable ” Vila Do Paraiso ”or alternatively in“ Aguia Negra ”in Vilanculos.

Center console boats are fished – around 9-10 hours a day.
