Fishing adventure DJIBOUTI - GULF Of ADEN - 7 BROTHERS ISLANDS
This is THE location for all popper fishing adventure in DJIBOUTI
enthusiasts for large Giant Trevallies (GTs)!
The “7 Brothers Islands” (also: Sawabi Islands)are located directly in the bottleneck between the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea. Every time the tide changes, this bottleneck is haunted by roaring currents, which whip against the stony islands with full force and carry tons of food with them. In addition, the islands are one of the largest spawning areas for the GTs in the spring time. The fish increase massively their body weight during this period. Fish over 60 kg have been landed several times.

The “Seven Brothers” – in the far north of Djibouti – consist of 6 uninhabited small islands plus a rocky outcrop that was included in the name at the time.
Without a doubt, here you will find one of the really last territories worldwide, where even die-hard GT hunters can still get their money’s worth.
This destination is a real challenge – both for the physical condition of the angler and for the strength of the equipment – because both are extremely important here.

Would you like a little taste? On our test tour in May 2019, we were able to land a whopping 10 GTs in the 25-30 kg range, one of 35 kg and one of 45 kg in just 1.5 days. In addition, a few smaller specimens and a very decent kingfish. The same amount got lost for a variety of reasons (line break, etc.). This area does not seem to belong to the places where you only get 2-3 chances of a big fish within a week. In addition to the GTs, there are of course numerous other types of fish that regularly attack the popper: king mackerel, barracuda, dorado – to name just a few – always provide variety.
Fishing trips DJIBOUTI
Far from any civilization is the fishing trips Camp Khor Angar – located on a sandbar between the sea and the mangroves. The accommodation is “basic”, but considering where you are, you have a certain comfort. Newly built huts only in 2019 – located directly on the beach, offer space for 2-3 anglers. There is a small “wash house” with shower and toilet. Of course you will be fully catered for in the camp.
There are currently 2 boats for fishing: 8 – 11 meters long with a lot of deck space and optimally designed for popping. There is a skipper + fishing guide on board. The fishing days usually look like this: Start early in the morning (around 06: 00-06: 30) and drive to the islands. Fishing until noon. Return to the camp for lunch and a break. Then head for the fishing grounds and fishing again until sunset (around 6:00 p.m.).

How to get there:
Despite the exceptional location, you have a very good connection from Germany. Air France flies daily via Paris to Djibouti city – from there it is another 5 hour transfer by car to the camp.

Security: Djibouti is one of the safest countries in Africa (… if not THE safest ..). This is due to its strategic location on the Horn of Africa and the associated extremely strong military presence of various major powers. This applies to both the mainland and offshore, where permanent boats from the Navy are on patrol.
Season: March-June and September-October
