Fishing adventure MOZAMBIQUE: PREMEIRAS & Fogo Island -- GT- CHALLENGE
In search of extraordinary fishing areas – especially for surface fishing adventure in MOZAMBIQUE / PREMEIRAS (popper) – we came across an absolute highlight again:
6 reefs, 40 nautical miles off the coast with flat zones of only 8 meters water depth and steep drop-offs. Perfect conditions for sea predators of all kinds – and hardly fished due to the exceptional location. A classic area for spin fishing (poppers + jigging), but of course a lot is also possible with natural baits and trolling lures.
The main target fish species are Giant Trevally (GT), King Mackerel, Tuna, Wahoo – and even Sailfish and Marlin have already been caught here on Popper.
Fishing trips MOZAMBIQUE / PREMEIRAS
The location of the area is around Fogo Island (see map) – in addition to the numerous reefs there are also some shipwrecks, which of course are also fished. If the weather does not play along as planned on a weekly tour, Fogo Island offers wind protection – otherwise you can also drive inshore towards Pebane, where there are beside GT’s even Bonefish to catch. Our local partners of the “Pelagic II” (a 45 foot catamaran with 3 double cabins for the guests) have been fishing trips in MOZAMBIQUE / PREMEIRAS this area for many years with great success – but since only small groups are always on site and the area extends over a huge area , there can be no question of high fishing pressure at all.
Fishing travel Fogo Island
After fishing travel North reef by reef for the first few days, we arrive at Fogo Island – an island that you can walk around in about an hour. Absolute Robinson feeling! Here we can fish both from the shore (on arm-thick Garfish, GTs and other Trevally species) and also from the boat (for Bonefish or large Rays). Even the huge – and very rare – Sawfish occurs here. In the evening we go on with a campfire and barbecue.

The “Pelagic II” is a 45 foot catamaran, built in 2011, with 2 x 125 HP Yanmar diesel engines (9 knots march speed / 16 accounts top speed). Echo sounder / plotter / VHF / SAT phone (for emergencies). There are 3 double cabins for guests on board. Kitchen with sitting area, shower / toilet. Please bring towels with you.
We would be happy to make you an individual offer for groups (4-5 people).
The next tour for single drivers is planned for August 2021
The exact date has not yet been fixed, but we have at least an approximate period (August 2021) for the next single-driver tour, in which you can experience fishing around the island of Fogo. Target fish are in particular large Giant Trevallies (GT) and Dogtooth Tuna. Of course, the other fish species will not be neglected – and there are really plenty of them …
Scheduled course of the tour
Departure Germany (via Lisbon / Maputo). Other departures on request.
Arrival in Quelimane / Mozambique
Then transfer to the boat and sailing towards Premeiras
Return to Quelimane, transfer to the airport and flight back to Maputo
One night in Maputo
Return flight (via Istanbul) to Germany.

Depending on the interests of the participants, we can carry out the tour with either 4 or 5 anglers on board. With 4 guests, the cabin occupancy would be 2 x single + 1 x double cabin – with 5 participants then 2 x double and 1 x single cabin.
